At Lucanet, we understand that wellbeing means different things to each of us, from overall wellbeing and mental health to balancing work and personal life and finding motivation in what we do every day. We’re dedicated to promoting wellbeing and personal growth because we believe mental health is just as important as physical health. In the fast-paced tech world, supporting our people’s wellbeing boosts connections, productivity, and empowers everyone to bring their ambitious mindset.
To mark Mental Health Awareness Month, we spoke with Silvia, Vice President People and Organization, about why mental health matters, what Lucanet is doing, and how we’re building a more supportive workplace.
Silvia, thank you so much for joining us today. Can you start by sharing why wellbeing and mental health are personally important to you and for Lucanet?
Thank you. It’s always great to advocate for a topic that means so much to me personally. My family faced a challenging period with one of my children, and the understanding and flexibility I received at work made all the difference. Without that support, I’m not sure I could have kept going during that time. It gave me the strength and flexibility to be there for my family when they needed me, sometimes on very short notice. Mental health affects families, communities, and workplaces. When people feel supported, it builds trust, boosts productivity, and creates space for real collaboration. That’s how we create a culture where everyone thrives at Lucanet.
That’s powerful. And how do you leverage your role to advocate for wellbeing and mental health?
I feel really lucky to be in a position where I can champion these topics - not just within Lucanet, but also externally. Recently, I spoke at the WomenTech Global Conference about building mentally supportive workplaces. I always like backing up ideas with data, and the numbers speak for themselves: companies prioritizing mental health see a 21% productivity boost, and 63% of employees say kindness at work improves their wellbeing. So, with that in mind, why not use what we know to lift each other up? When we support one another, both personally and professionally, we all win as one team.
So, how does Lucanet support employee wellbeing?
Over the past eight years at Lucanet, I’ve watched our approach to wellbeing grow into something really meaningful. We’re now in the second year of our year-long Wellbeing Campaign, which focuses on creating a supportive environment where mental and physical health matter equally. The campaign provides opportunities to align work and life in a meaningful way, while also fostering personal development and healthy habits. We want everyone to find more balance, turn challenges into opportunities, and focus on what’s important for our long-term success. As we grow as an organization, maintaining wellbeing and work-life balance is essential for productivity and achieving our goals together.
That’s a fantastic initiative for employees. Tell us more about Wellbeing Day. What can employees expect?
Absolutely! Our Wellbeing Day inspires new ways to care for mind and body. It’s a great opportunity to connect, whether joining remotely or participating in our onsite activities. Throughout the day, people can explore a variety of sessions and pick what works best for them. It’s about encouraging reflection, learning, and sparking positive changes in our health together. I strongly believe that taking this time and connecting with others helps create a healthier and more effective workplace for us all.
That sounds great! Do you manage wellbeing efforts internally, or do you work with external partners as well?
We actually do both. Our event team does a great job balancing external experts - like Bloom, our mental health provider, and coaches - with passionate employees who contribute their own expertise. And I’m really proud we offer Bloom’s support globally; offering tailored resources to address personal and professional challenges. Sometimes people prefer to explore topics independently, whether due to cultural influences, a desire for privacy, or wanting to speak confidentially outside their circles. Bloom’s mix of face-to-face and online support meets these diverse needs, making this partnership essential.
What impact have you seen so far from these wellbeing programs?
One thing that really stood out to me in our recent engagement survey is that 92% of our people feel like they’re part of a team that truly supports each other’s success and wellbeing. I think that says it all! It really reflects our commitment to responsible business practices across everything we do at Lucanet. We know our people are our greatest asset, and we want to create an inclusive, supportive workplace that lives up to our core value of valuing our people and the communities we serve. Studies show that offering strong mental health support can boost retention by 73%. That support builds resilience and collaboration, making us not just more productive, but more connected as a team.
Before we close, if someone notices a colleague struggling mentally, how should they approach the situation?
Approach with curiosity and compassion - not judgment. It’s okay to be concerned and to want to help, but we have to be gentle and empathetic. In my talk at the WomenTech Global Conference, I shared the CARE framework with a few adjustments. People can use that at Lucanet to ensure open and consistent communication. Check in by asking how someone is doing and making them feel seen; Acknowledge by listening and validating feelings without rushing to offer solutions; Refer by guiding toward professional help if needed; and Empower by encouraging small steps towards self-care and following up. It’s about being present, showing you care, and reminding people they’re not alone.
Thank you, Silvia, for sharing your insights and dedication to this important topic.
