Alina talks about how her team ensures we exceed customer expectations and the groundbreaking tech developments happening at Lucanet. Hi Alina, thank you for joining us today! Let's get started right away, when did you join Lucanet, and which team are you a part of?
Hi! It's great to be here. I joined Lucanet in March 2023 as a Front-End Developer on the ESG Reporting solution team here in Romania. It's been an exciting journey so far!
That's wonderful to hear! Can you tell us a bit more about your role?
Sure! ESG Reporting is about disclosing a company's impact on the environment, society, and governance (ESG) with stakeholders. My job is to make this complex information simple and easy to use through our solution. Our solution can be used to prepare and report on sustainability and other ESG components.
And how do you and your team collaborate with others in our global structure?
Collaboration is a key part of my daily work. It starts with the business analyst and UX designer who present their vision for a product feature. Then, my back-end developer colleague works their magic with Java. And then I transform those designs into functional code. I pay close attention to every detail to make sure everything meets the aesthetic and functional specifications - right down to the pixel! This attention to detail ensures that our work meets the high standards.
Talking about high standards. Can you explain how your team upholds them and contributes to Lucanet's overall goals?
ESG Reporting is a relatively new requirement for many companies in the EU, and our goal is to deliver the most user-friendly solution possible. Although it may seem complex, we strive to offer a smooth introduction to ESG. We do this by providing clear, easy-to-use questionnaires and well-defined workflows, ensuring that our customers can carry out their tasks efficiently and confidently.
A real benefit for our customers! Is there a recent project that you’re particularly proud of?
We recently took on a challenging project. It involved a complex feature for reporting entity assignment at the question level. The design seemed simple at first, but it required a lot of calculations and consideration of various possible situations. I even had to use pen and paper to map out the code flow and storage approach. Even though this feature caused some challenges in the beginning, I'm proud to say that our QA team found only a few issues, and it’s been running smoothly ever since. A huge shoutout to my colleagues for our teamwork in making this happen!
What a fantastic team effort! Is there a future trend in your field that excites you, and how is Lucanet positioned in this area?
I'm really excited about the growing awareness around the environmental impacts companies have. Much like the global efforts to restore the ozone layer, I believe that if companies report on metrics like CO2 emissions, it can lead to better regulations and a clearer understanding of what we need to do to preserve our planet. Sustainability has always been important to me, and it's inspiring to see Lucanet at the forefront of this movement, allowing me to contribute to a cause I'm truly passionate about.
Great to hear how closely ESG aligns with your passions. What else do you enjoy about working here?
I really appreciate how much Lucanet values having quality code and careful planning. We start by designing systems for our features, documenting everything like data structures and workflows. This helps us avoid surprises. During code reviews, we encourage feedback and questions, which help us spot potential issues, improve efficiency, or catch small errors. All of these efforts help us deliver excellent solutions for our customers.
Planning and feedback are indeed crucial for future-proofing our business. Which of our core values resonates most with you in this regard?
For me, it's definitely "We build trust through our actions". Other companies keep doing what's working until they're forced to change. We are always looking for ways to improve our solutions. We don't just brush off trends like AI, thinking we can do without them. Instead, we actively work with these trends and encourage new ideas that will make us better. As a developer, I enjoy staying up to date with new advancements, and it's exciting to see Lucanet doing the same. For example, our annual hackathon, which is an internal competition where we work on potential new projects, has resulted in many interesting projects related to AI. These projects show that we're not standing still but are actively pushing forward with other companies.
